This was a slate reroof we undertook on a property in Stretford. On Our first visit it was evident the roof was becoming beyond repair, with slate slippage occurring on both the front and rear elevations of the property. We removed all the existing slate and battens from the roof, (no felt was installed, this was the roofs 1st time off since it was built 120 years previous) before installing a new breathable felt membrane and treated tile battens to the entire roof area.
We then reinstated the slate roof as before, with new code 4 lead soakers and flashings to the 2 apex chimney stacks and reinstated the ridge on a sand/cement bed, pointed to a smooth finish. Slate replacement on this whole roof was under 10% given the quality of the existing slate, and I’m sure it will last another 120 years.
